about

Introduction

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) issued Notification No. MPCB/JD (APC) B-0218: dated 07/02/2025, mandating the installation of sensor-based pollution indicators at all active construction sites. This initiative aims to strengthen air quality monitoring, enhance accountability, and ensure that developers take proactive measures to control dust and emissions during construction activities.

Ensuring compliance:

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), under directives from the High Court of Mumbai, has made it mandatory for all construction and infrastructure projects in Mumbai to monitor air quality levels on-site.

Highlights of the MPCB Notification MPCB/JD (APC) B-0218:

  • Ensure mandatory installation of low-cost sensors for measurement of pollution indicators on all construction sites.
  • Monitor pollution levels continuously through a central command & control room.

Building on this directive, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) launched a centralized AQI monitoring dashboard to integrate live data from construction sites across the city. This initiative not only enforces compliance with MPCB’s notification but also brings real-time visibility and transparency for both authorities and citizens.

Airveda has partnered with Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to ensure that live data from Airveda devices is seamlessly integrated into the TMC Command Center, ensuring end-to-end compliance with TMC regulations and enabling uninterrupted construction activities across sites

Problem Statement

With increasing construction activity in Thane, particulate matter (PM2.5 & PM10) emissions were affecting local air quality, posing risks to workers and residents.

The MPCB Notification required that:

  • Sensor-based pollution indicators be installed at all active construction sites.
  • Continuous measurement of key parameters (PM2.5, PM10, temperature, humidity).
  • Data to be made available to relevant authorities (TMC) for compliance monitoring.
  • Developers act promptly to mitigate high pollution levels.

For all our clients, meeting these requirements quickly was critical to avoid penalties, project delays, and reputational impact, all while keeping construction on schedule.
